Hobbs & Shaw May Have Accidentally Revealed How John Cena's Jakob Returns from the Dead in Fast 11

The Fast & Furious franchise has become infamous for bringing back characters who were thought to be dead. John Cena, who portrayed the character of Jakob Toretto, the brother of Dom, found his ultimate in Fast X.

Well, it seems a bit unlikely that they would continue the franchise without John Cena in the mix and they have the perfect solution. From what Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s spin-off Hobbs & Shaw tell us, it seems that there’s a way of bringing people back from the dead.

John Cena Could Return In Fast 11

No, they do not have the Book of the Dead (yet) but there is another way dead characters can be brought back to life for that, they have to acknowledge and include Hobbs & Shaw as a part of their own cinematic universe.

After the disputes, Johnson and Statham went on to star in the spin-off titled Hobbs & Shaw. Although the movie was quite successful, the core cast of the Fast & Furious franchise had several problems with the movie. Now, with Jakob Toretto dead, they could bring back John Cena in Fast 11 if they could try this little trick from Hobbs & Shaw.

Fans might remember Idris Elba’s iconic portrayal of Brixton Lore in Hobbs & Shaw. Well, he was dead from a mission but was turned into a cyborg with the technology available at Eteon. Using the same technology, they could bring back Jakob Toretto as a cyborg (a good one, hopefully) and allow him to continue being a part of the Fast family. Although they haven’t acknowledged the events of Hobbs & Shaw in the lore of the Fast saga, there has been some evidence supporting this theory in Fast X.

During a scene in Fast X, Charlize Theron’s Cipher and Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty are shown in the Agency’s black site prison. A random laser machine is shown which could repair and seal up wounds in the blink of an eye.

Similar in function to the things at Eteon Technologies, John Cena could very well end up under that same laser and have his wounds healed and patched up before returning to the fight. All in all, it seems that the Fast & Furious franchise is indeed trying to make sense of how they keep bringing all these characters back from the dead. With an ever-increasing number of Dominic Toretto’s family, fans could potentially expect that John Cena’s Jakob Toretto is not truly dead.

Fast 11 is currently in development with an expected release date of April 4, 2025, but the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes could very well push back the release dates significantly. Meanwhile, Fast X is currently available to stream on Peacock Premium in the U.S.
