Hideaki Itsuno, the Director of Dragon’s Dogma 2, revealed the extended gameplay video at the Tokyo Game Show yesterday. The action RPG has four vocations for players to choose from: Thief, Fighter, Mage, or Archer. Players can customize their chosen character and build their class and strength, however, they will not be locked to the chosen character forever, as the ability to change their character in between will be available throughout the game. Apart from the vocation chosen by players, the other three will be the player’s AI company throughout the game.

The four vocations are explained below:

  • Fighter: The fighter excels in melee combat as he cuts down enemies wielding a sword in one hand and a shield in the other hand. The fighter excels in melee combat and can deal major damage to the humongous monsters.
  • Archer: Archers will be best suited to take down enemies above them, using a bow and arrow to attack enemies from a distance. Archers can make full use of their arsenal which includes exploding or blinding arrows.
  • Mages: Mages excel at long-range magical attacks. They also have healing and support spells that can quickly heal others with various enchantments.
  • Thieves: Finally, thieves use daggers to strike at enemies relying on their agility and quick attacks. Gamers choosing the Thief vocation can use swift steps to quickly move away from enemies after an attack. The thief’s major strategy against massive monsters is to find openings and cling onto them as they deal more damage.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 also features two nations, one ruled by humans and the other by Dragons.

While the nation of Vermund has been ruled by dragon slayers as kings, the nation of Battahl is the land of the Beastren with a slightly different culture followed by those who reside there. Vermund has lush meadows and rolling hills, making the place ripe for exploration. Battahl, in contrast, is a rugged canyon nation with a city built on the site of ancient ruins. The nation of Battahl offers players diverse environments to explore and monsters to encounter.

While players explore Battahl, they might come across people who call out to the players and ask for their aid in side-quests. Fast travel in the game is done using an Ox cart to major locations marked on the map. Once players start a ride, they can choose to fight monsters on the way or close their eyes to quickly travel to the destination.

Nighttime brings out more dangerous monsters and pitch-black periods. Players can recover health in the game by resting in a campsite if they have a camping kit. Concluding the gameplay, it was also revealed that players will be able to unlock advanced vocations at later stages of the game. These advanced vocations include the Mystic Spearhand and the Magick Archer.

Mystic Spearhand combines magick attacks as well as weapon-based physical attacks. They use their Duospear to attack monsters at close range and magick at long range. They can also use magic to block enemy attacks or throw multiple items back at the monsters all at once. Magick Archer further entends Archer’s attacks using longer-range attacks and magickal arrows. They can also heal and support others while also releasing powerful attacks over a wide area.

Itsuno concluded the stream for Dragon’s Dogma 2 with that and mentioned the game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S consoles, and on PC through Steam.
