The Lenovo Legion Go: More Details Revealed!

The Lenovo Legion Go has been rumored for some time, but now, the first images of the new product have been revealed in the media. Despite having experimented with a few assorted portable prototypes, Lenovo has never officially released a device that could be considered a high-end portable device, especially for gaming.

However, after the arrival of the consoles like Steam Deck by Valve and the ASUS ROG Ally, both significantly increasing the appeal of portables among gamers, Lenovo decided to play along and assume a more competitive stance, not willing to cede this territory to its competitors by establishing its presence and engaging with that segment of the market.

Interestingly, its portable named Legion Go is also going to be powered by the ASUS Ryzen Z1 APU processor which seems to be no longer exclusive to ASUS ROG Ally systems. For stats nerds, it’s also worth noting that it’s unclear whether the system will get the Z1 Extreme or just the Z1 APU, both very different processors in terms of specs.

A recent video from the Windows Report website shows more details and renderings about the device, some of them unmistakably displaying the presence of the Z1 chip in the console. This specific AMD Phoenix processor with Zen4 architecture and RDNA3 is customized with adjustable voltage features, allowing the APU to run in low power consumption modes and having such vital energy efficiency for a device of this type, reflecting one of the main advantages of the Steam Deck.

Lenovo’s new portable device is thought to be much more than a simple competitor against the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally systems, it can be compared to a hybrid by using elements of both devices in itself and incorporating a feature also seen on Nintendo Switch. While it includes Ally’s Ryzen Z1 APU, it also features Valve’s console-like touchpads and controllers that can be disconnected from the console, a feature until now, only associated with Nintendo’s Switch. Other than that, the console has an 8-inch screen, differentiating itself from its counterparts.

It is also notable that the device’s controls have rear buttons and a mouse scroll wheel, coming from influences from classic consoles and the PC itself and finally, there is also a switch dedicated to FPS mode. At the same time, Lenovo is also developing a new product for the Legion series, namely the Legion AR Glasses that will be available together with the Legion Go, suggesting that Lenovo has ambitions to further expand its productivity and profit in the gaming world.

These AR Glasses curiously look a lot like Lenovo’s own T1 Glasses, announced last year that promised to provide a “private display for on-the-go experience”, not only for games but also for movies and shows through streaming and that means that AR Glasses may not exactly mean the use of augmented reality. The exact release date for the Lenovo Legion Go is still uncertain as of now, but the fact that official renders have already been shared with some partners, which made the leak possible, indicates that a launch is not far off, just not that close.
