"It will have your jaw hit the ground": Fans Already Want an Actor From 'Killers of the Flower Moon' to Win the Oscar and It's Not Leonardo DiCaprio

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio will be reuniting with director Martin Scorsese for the sixth time with the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon. Based on a book by David Grann, the film is a crime drama about the Osage murders that occurred in the 1920s. The film will also feature Robert De Niro in his tenth collaboration with Scorsese.

The film received its second trailer earlier this week and has fans excited because of its brilliant star cast and the creative talents involved. While the prospect of DiCaprio and De Niro starring together in a Scorsese film is exciting enough, fans seem to be showering praises on lead actress Lily Gladstone, who might be the breakout star of the film.

The film Killers of the Flower Moon will be the sixth collaboration between director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Starting with the period crime drama Gangs of New York, the duo worked together in films such as The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Scorsese won his first and only Oscar for Best Director for The Departed, while DiCaprio was nominated for three of the six films that they have collaborated on.

After the film’s premiere at this year’s Canned Film Festival, it seems like Leonardo DiCaprio might be in the running for yet another Oscar for Best Actor. Many early reviews of the film after the premiere have regarded his performance as his best yet. Film critic David Ehrlich wrote in his review of the film for IndieWire,

“That sepia-toned saga of slow-poisoned self-denial is sustained by the best performance of Leonardo DiCaprio’s entire career. The former matinee idol has never been shy about playing low-lives and scum-bums, but his nuanced and uncompromising turn as the cretinous Ernest Burkhart mines new wonders from the actor’s long-standing lack of vanity.”

The film boasts a stellar cast with many Oscar veterans. Apart from DiCaprio and De Niro, Oscar nominees such as John Lithgow and Jesse Plemons as well as last year’s Best Actor winner Brendan Fraser star in supporting roles. However, holding her ground in the cast is actress Lily Gladstone.

Lily Gladstone will be playing the lead along with DiCaprio and De Niro in the film and will be paired opposite the former. The actress is known for her appearances in independent films such as First Cow and Certain Woman. The latter was her breakthrough role and earned her Best Supporting Actress Awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Boston Society of Film Critics. She also earned a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Ever since the second trailer of the film was released, audiences have been excited about Lily Gladstone’s performance and are predicting that she will be nominated for an Oscar. Some comments on the trailer include,

“I believe Lily Gladstone is going to have an incredible career after this movie comes out. After working in a few indies like Certain Women, First Cow, and The Unknown Country, seeing her being the main lady in a huge movie directed by the Scorsese is absolutely fantastic.”

@BrokenHomes49

“The book was amazing. It will have your jaw hit the ground. I’m sure the movie will too.”

@Al-kd6hv

“This Can’t Fail! Hopefully, Lily Gladstone gets an Academy Award for this and this whole film wins Best Picture.”
