"Do not expect to see any overarching connections to...": Aquaman 2 Update Maybe the Straw That Broke the Camel's Back for SnyderVerse

The eagerly awaited Aquaman 2 is set to hit the theaters on December 20, 2023. Fans have been counting down the days till the release of Aquaman 2. The James Wan-directed blockbuster’s follow-up will be the final chapter in the original DC Extended Universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran take over and reboot the chronology with Superman: Legacy.

No version of Batman will make an appearance in the Aquaman sequel. Therefore, there is very little chance that Snyder Verse will also be referenced in any future DC projects. It only makes sense for Aquaman to have an entirely independent sequel that doesn’t depend on the larger franchise as there is no room for future DCEU sequels or crossovers.

Aquaman 2 has No Connection to Any Film, Said Director James Wan

Regarding a possible cameo by Batman, it is rumored that scenes starring Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s versions of the superhero have been removed from the film. James Wan has also confirmed that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is unconnected to The Flash in any way and has kept mum about any possible appearances by Batman.

Asked if there’s truth to filming both Affleck and Keaton, director James Wan replied to EW,

The tricky thing early on was not knowing whether Aquaman would come out first or come out after [The Flash]. So, we just had to be prepared. At the end of the day, the best thing I would say about this movie is that it is not connected in any way to any of those films. That’s the bottom line.”

As James Wan confirmed his Aquaman movies are separate and exist in their own universe, so that means there will be no SnyderVerse reference as well.

No Batman in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom!

Michael Keaton was initially going to reprise Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Following the completion of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, it became clear that Affleck would take up Keaton’s role as Bruce Wayne. However, as per an industry scoop, both Bruce Wayne/Batman cameos are not there in the upcoming film.

Recently, the box office performance of DC Comics movies has been in a dramatic decline. The most recent notable example of this was The Flash, which had trouble drawing audiences to theaters. James Gunn has been very outspoken and detailed about his ambitions for the new DC Universe. Everything will be clear when the movie runs in the theater.
