"It freaked out his young daughter": Christian Bale's Insane Commitment Became Too Scary For His Daughter After Batman Star Immersed Himself In $214M Johnny Depp Movie

The life of a star isn’t a walk in the park. The industry’s demands and their own expectations mandate them to keep on pushing themselves and strive for better results every time they perform in front of a rolling camera. Thus, stars like Christian Bale and a select number of others have opted to meet those demands and persevere through the practice of method acting.

So far, the practice has proven to be a wonderful decision for the star as almost all of his performances have been nothing short of outstanding and exemplary. But it certainly hasn’t been smooth sailing all this while, in fact, at one point, he took his method acting practice to such an extreme that his daughter was scared for him.

By now, most of the public may have come to know that to truly bring out the best performance or a character to life, English actor Christian Bale goes all out with his method acting practice and almost inhabits the character. While this may be a matter of pride and praise since this approach has truly made him one of the greatest and most versatile stars of all time, the people around him are sometimes taken aback by this sudden change in his persona. One time, while he was preparing for his role in his then-upcoming film Public Enemies, the star terrified his daughter due to this practice.

In a past interview with Contact Music, the aforementioned film’s director Michael Mann talked about how to prepare for the role of Melvin Purvis, who was a southern US FBI agent, the star decided to adapt to the southern accent, which led to him constantly talking with the southern flare even when the camera wasn’t rolling. He also revealed that one time, when the Batman Begins star’s daughter heard him speak in that accent, she was very scared of him. He said:

“Melvin Purvis was really a southern gentleman. So Christian kept the accent for 24 hours a day. It freaked out his young daughter. She said: ‘Daddy doesn’t talk like that!’ he replied: ‘Well, ah’m sorry, mah dear, but daddy’s studying for a part, and ah’ll be speaking like this for the next four months.'”

Therefore, while his performances may be the ones that can win over everyone’s hearts, they also come with a cost sometimes, even if they are as small as giving one of you’re family members a little fright.

Created by Micahel Mann and released in 2009, the film featuring Johnny Depp tells the tale of The Great Depression Era, where bank robber John Dillinger has taken over the criminal underworld as gang wars are rampant to take hold of a crumbling economy. Along with Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd, Dillinger has the ability to take down anyone who gets in his way.

But his reign has not gone unnoticed, as the state makes him Public Enemy Number One, which has led to an immediate engagement of all law enforcement officers on his tail. Here, FBI agent Melvin Purvis is deployed and tasked to bring Dillinger in, dead or alive.
