The weight loss drug is currently a common practice among many celebrities who always want to stay in the public eye. But Oprah Winfrey didn’t want to take the “easy way out” and felt that it should be a personal choice to accept which body one chooses to be in.

“Shouldn’t we all just be more accepting of whatever body you choose to be in? That should be your choice. Even when I first started hearing about the weight loss drugs, at the same time I was going through knee surgery, and I felt, ‘I’ve got to do this on my own.’ Because if I take the drug, that’s the easy way out.'”

The Color Purple actress stated how numerous tabloids have often “shamed” her for lacking “willpower” when it comes to weight loss. Responding to it, another fellow panelist and obesity expert Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford stated that it is sad to see how Winfrey has been repeatedly subjected to criticism for a disease that has got to do nothing with willpower.

“It’s hard to see you ostracized in the way that you’ve been. Because this isn’t about willpower. It’s not your fault. It’s how our bodies regulate weight and each of us is different, each of us is unique, not one is superior to another. We’re just different and acting on those differences and treating the differences in the heterogeneity of the population is how we’re going to actually make change in this disease.”

Oprah Winfrey is on a journey of betterment following her double knee surgery. She has been involved in active sports like hiking and her respect for her organs and limbs has increased as well.

Richard Gere’s former wife was strongly against this behavior and didn’t expect it to come from somebody like Oprah Winfrey. The Fair Game actress admitted that Winfrey made her feel like a “chattel”.

“When you look at it through today’s eyes, when Oprah’s like, ‘Stand up and show me your body,’ like show us why you’re worthy of being here. In the moment I didn’t recognize it. Only when I look back at it and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that was so not OK really.’ Especially from Oprah!”

It will be interesting to see if Oprah Winfrey addresses this matter anytime soon. The Super Models is currently streaming on Apple TV+ and talks about various unheard tales and secrets from the modeling industry of the 80s.
