Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson just hit the jackpot when he became one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. His movies have grossed over $3.5 billion in North America and a whopping $10.5 billion worldwide. So, it’d be valid to say that the actor is basically swimming in cash.
Now, as the actor is officially one of the world’s richest actors, there’s a rumor spreading that he could play Kratos in the God of War TV show. But those who believe it’s true need to hold their horses as the creator of the 2018 God of War game just shut that rumor down.
Amazon Prime Video is gearing up for a live-action adaptation of God of War (2018) — an action-adventure game franchise, and plans to retell the epic story through a TV show.
The TV adaptation of God of War is currently in its early stages of development, and there has been no official announcement regarding the cast, which is also giving birth to some of the rumors.
Corg Barlog Debunked the Dwayne Johnson Casting Rumors for the Amazon TV Series
The TV show is still in the development process, and fans have already started to share their top picks for who should play fan-favorite characters like Kratos, Atreus, Mimir, and Freya. But fans are especially waiting to see the character of Kratos.
Kratos is a complex character with a wide range of emotions, which demands a great deal of emotional range. It’s a role that only certain actors can truly capture and do justice to.
Ever since the live-action God of War show was announced in 2022, there have been a lot of talks about Dwayne Johnson potentially taking on the role of Kratos, but Cory Barlog has since debunked it. Barlog directly responded on the X post:
“I have literally never heard anything about this.”
The creator didn’t reveal who will be playing Kratos, but he did confirm that the San Andreas star was not in contention for the role — putting an end to the rumor surrounding his casting as Kratos.
Fans Don’t Think That Dwayne Johnson is Worth Playing Kratos
Fans seemed relieved to hear that The Rock was not in the running to play Kratos, as many felt he wouldn’t be the right fit for the character.
Many have pointed out that Johnson primarily gets most of his success through charisma rather than traditional ‘acting’ ability. A fan said:
“Good. Don’t want him ruining a good franchise. He’s charismatic but he’s not a good actor… and, he likes to control too much. Look at Black Adam for example.”
Check below what others think about Barlog’s response:
He is not humble enough. He will make the GOW all about himself, just like he did with Black Adam

For once I really hope you're telling the truth. God awful choice. The rock can't act. The rock plays himself in the movies. Even John Cena would be a better pick.

Thank god. I don’t dislike the Rock. His movies are usually just kinda cheesy but fun to watch. I can’t picture him pulling off Kratos at all.

Fans of the God of War live-action show may need to have some patience, as it’s expected to arrive on screens in the next couple of years — maybe in 2024. However, the exact release date remains uncertain, and it might not debut until the year’s final months.
