‘Star Wars Jedi’ Games Loses Its Director Who Quit His Position at EA

The Star Wars Jedi game franchise, based on and set in the Lucasfilm multimedia saga, was created by Stig Asmussen, a director who had already worked at Santa Monica Studio for the God of War series, at least until now, because he set out with Electronic Arts. Stig participated intensely in the development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which was an exponent of games in the franchise, largely due to its engaging story for fans or newcomers, in addition to having created its successor, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, in the same way.

Director Stig Asmussen will no longer be a part of the Star Wars Jedi series

The reasons for Stig’s departure have not yet been clearly revealed, but the importance he had in the games and the fact he will be missed now will be important from now on. The gaming community, along with the Star Wars community, is eager for something new in any continuation of Cal Kestis’ journey and many may be put off or even more excited, depending on their opinion on the last two titles, with this news.

After Asmussen’s great and great contribution to the gaming industry, there’s no doubt he’ll find even better paths beyond the galaxy far, far away, but what could this mean for the future of Star Wars Jedi video games? With the expectation of a third installment in the series, the director’s departure shakes up the teams and development as a whole and could result in anything from a delay to a change in the narrative, what we can do until we know for sure is speculate and/or wait.

Asmussen, led Respawn, a subsidiary of EA, in addition to having commanded significant parts of God of War, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) which achieved success and 20 million players, while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023) led the sales stops since April. It is disappointing to see his departure at this time after having said in March that he always saw the game series as a trilogy, now he should not participate in this third and possible conclusion of the narrative.

An EA spokesperson commented on the director’s departure saying: “After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck. Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”

Both titles directed by Stig are popularly acclaimed and considered a Star Wars-worthy entry into the world of video games after so many attempts that fluctuated between releases. And in addition to transforming the games in the saga, he helped to reformulate Respawn as a studio that until then had produced Titanfall as its spotlight.

What do you think about this? Are you saddened by Asmussen’s exit? What story do you think is a fit for the third Star Wars Jedi game? Let us know in the comments!
