Originally offered the role of Mia in Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, which earned more than a dozen nominations at the Oscars, Emma Watson rejected the film in favor of the remake of the Disney classic. Even though Emma Stone took an Oscar home for Best Actress for the film, Emma Watson doesn’t regret her decision to star in Beauty and the Beast, as the character of Belle deeply resonated with her. However, this wasn’t the lone Disney role she was offered, as she previously turned down the role of Cinderella. Speaking to Grazia, Watson explained,

“I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty And The Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella.” She continued: “But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did. She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that’s the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice.”
