Harvest Island Is the Next Stardew Valley, but in the Horror Genre

Yobob Games' Harvest Island might be another perfect game for Halloween!

For those looking forward to an indie game to play this Halloween, Harvest Island might be perfectly suitable. It’s releasing on October 10th and is a semi-farming simulator that heavily draws inspiration from Stardew Valley in a horror setting. The game features a brother-sister duo who take care of their farm and unravel increasingly horrific mysteries about their island home.

The game’s teaser trailer landed yesterday and featured no dialogue, while the background music kept getting more intense as the game got darker. The teaser also featured the words, “I Want To Get Away From This“. Harvest Island is developed by a one-person studio, just like Stardew Valley.

Harvest Island might be one of the standout games to try this Halloween, as the perfectly timed horror-themed title comes out next month. Harvest Island has been developed by Yobob Games, and the developer teased the game last year with a detailed description and the progress made back then.

Harvest Island is described as a semi-farming simulator, as the game is story-driven around three characters. Will, the elder brother, is looking for an adventure, and his rather shy younger sister, Samantha, follows her brother, as does their strict father, Greyson.

Greyson has years of farming experience and guides his kids on different farming tasks. Greyson worries for his kids in his own way and may have kept a lot of secrets about the island to himself, which his children look to uncover.

Yobob also mentions that the characters will have a change of nature as the game progresses, without revealing much.

The island is said to be watched over by a god, whose statue lies in the center of the island. The brother-sister duo will need to provide offerings to their god in exchange for Bless points. Bless points act as currency in the game and are used to upgrade their farm and build more crafts.

Harvest Island also has a bunch of places to explore, and apart from farming, players will also need to take care of their animals, craft things to help them on their journey, and build buildings that assist in upgrading farms. Finally, there’s also fishing in the game, but players must obtain a fishing rod and bait. There are no details given yet about the horror aspect of the game or what sort of dangers lurk on the island.

The developer draws similarities from games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, stressing the fact that the game is definitely no copy of either title. The developer has mentioned that the game has taken over four years to make. Harvest Island is already up on Steam, with a planned release date of October 10th. There’s currently a demo version of the game available for download for anyone who wishes to try it out.
